Garibaldi Newsletter September 2017

Message from the Vice-Principal

Welcome to the 2017/2018 school year! I do hope that you have had a restful and enjoyable summer and that you are looking forward to a fun, exciting and rewarding year.

My name is Donna Emeno and I am a retired Vancouver School Board Elementary Principal that will be filling in for Mr. Bolianaz until he returns. I am very excited about being part of the Garibaldi School Community. I know that Garibaldi offers a positive and supportive environment with the best interests of all children at heart. I look forward to meeting you and working together with you and your children while I am here.

Welcome back!

Donna Emeno
Acting Vice-Principal

Student Sign Out Procedure

When you pick up your child during the school day, please ensure that you sign them out at the school office. If you do not sign out your child, they will be unaccounted for, and the school will identify your child as a ‘missing’ student and will commence a search of school grounds. If the school staff do not locate the child, and are unable to reach a parent promptly, the school will call the Vancouver Police Department. Therefore, clear communication is essential for ensuring the safety of your child and to prevent unnecessary searches. Thank you for helping us keep your children safe!

Student Verification Sheets & School Fees

A package of student verification sheets, permission forms and information on school fees and how to make payment will be coming home in the first week of school. Please ensure that these are completed and returned as soon as possible and returned to the classroom teacher. Communications and newsletters from the school will continue to be sent by email, so please ensure that your email address is correct. The newsletter will also be posted on the school website and copies will be available from the office.

Food Allergies

Garibaldi is an allergy aware school.
Several of our students at Garibaldi have severe life threatening food allergies to nuts, nut products, seafood, milk and eggs. There is a designated space in the lunchroom where these children may eat safely. We do ask parents not to send nuts or nut products in lunches and snacks. As we cannot guarantee to be a nut free school, we ask that students never share food. If you would like to share treats please speak to the teacher ahead of time, or give the treats to students in the presence of their parents outside of the building. Thank you for your help with this student safety issue.

School Schedule

This year all elementary schools in Vancouver will again start at 9 am and finish at 3:00 with lunch running from 12:10 to 12:57. Recess will be from 10:40 to 11:00. Please note that supervision for students starts at 8:45 and finishes at 3:15. At these times the play areas are busy so we ask that students walk their bikes and scooters on the school grounds so that everyone can stay safe.
