Hastings Sunrise Cooks up Something Great to Help Kids
Vancouver, BC Nov. 12, 2015–Top chefs from Vancouver’s culturally diverse neighbourhood, Hastings Sunrise, are dishing out something delicious for a great cause. Dozens of the community’s favourite haunts have shared mouthwatering recipes in the cookbook, Hastings Sunrise Cooks, to benefit kids living in and around the area.
Hastings Sunrise Cooks ($25), is a 120-page, full-colour community cookbook celebrating the richness of the area through photographs, stories and recipes from neighbourhood restaurants.
Foodies now have the chance to try their hands at dishes including Pulled Pork Pancakes with JD Syrup (The Red Wagon Café), White Chocolate Ginger Cookies (Black Rook Bakehouse), and Cacio e Pepe (Campagnola Roma). Each recipe includes a Difficulty scale ranging from ‘Easy, to ‘Moderate’ to ‘Tough to make but worth it!’ catering to chefs of all levels.
Hastings Sunrise Cooks is a volunteer-run project, brought to life by community members. It was inspired by parents of Garibaldi Annex Elementary, a small neighbourhood K-4 school, as a way to give back to their community.
Proceeds from books sold will benefit two great causes: Community First Foundation and Garibaldi Annex Elementary.
Through their local food program, Backpack Buddies, Community First Foundation, provides school-aged children with packs filled with food to sustain them through the weekend. The program currently benefits more than 800 kids in the Lower Mainland.
Proceeds will also benefit Garibaldi Annex Elementary, providing sports, arts, music and educational opportunities to help kids thrive.
The cookbook and a Hastings Sunrise tote bag can be purchased online at hastingssunrisecooks.bigcartel.com, or by visiting participating locations throughout the Hastings Sunrise neighbourhood.
